Cracked Wheat Mint Pulav

Its a simple mint pulav with rice. I replaced the rice with cracked wheat. The cracked wheat i have used is bigger size . Its definitely a low carb food for diabetic persons and good for weight loss.

Cracked Wheat                   1 cup

Mint                                    1 bunch

Coriander leaves                 1 bunch

Green chilli                          3 nos

Onion                                1 Medium

Ginger Garlic paste            1/2 tbsp

Salt to taste

To Temper

Fennel seeds                     1 tsp

Cloves                              2 Nos

Cinnamon                        2 Nos

Cardamom                      2 Nos

Bay leaves                      1 No

Wash the mint and coriander leaves and remove from the stem. In a blender, blend the mint,coriander leaves and green chilli as paste.

Heat oil in pan, once hot place the ingredients under temper. Once splutter add ginger garlic paste and saute well.

Add onions and cook till its done. Now add the ground paste and cook till raw smells goes.

Add cracked wheat,2 cups of water and salt mix well . Cook till the cracked wheat are cooked and it becomes dry.

Serve hot with pickle or raita.

Microwave Mug cake - 2 Minute

I'm craving to eat some cake but with nutritional value. I got this recipe some where i forgot where i got.

The original recipe with all purpose flour i replace it to Ragi flour.

Serving size 1

Ragi Flour                     3 tbsp

Coco powdered          2 tbsp

Sugar                          2 1/2 tbsp

Baking powder            1/8 tsp

Vanilla extract            Few drops (Optional)

Oil                             2 tbsp

Milk                          4 tbsp

In a microwave safe mug or bowl mix the dry ingredients first then add oil and milk. Mix well without making any lumps.

Keep in microwave for 2 minutes.

Yummy mug cake is ready in 2 minutes. Serve with your favorite toppings.

(I have it as it is.... i'm not able to wait to have :) )

Potato curry with Curd

Its a very simple dish and it will take very less time to cook.

Potato                                 2 Nos

Curd/Yogurt                        4 tbsp

Green chilli                           2 nos

Cumin seeds                         1 tsp

Gram Flour                           1 tsp

Ginger Chopped                   1 tsp

Chilli powder                        1/2 tsp

Coriander Powder                1 tsp

Turmeric Powder                  1/2 tsp

Coriander leaves  chopped    1/4 cup

Salt to taste.

Boil the potato in stove top or by using microwave.

In a bowl mix curd,green chilli, ginger,chilli powder,coriander powder and turmeric powder like a paste.

Heat oil in pan add cumin seeds. Once cumin seeds splutter add gram flour and cook until it turns golden brown.

Add the curd paste and cook till the spices done or the spices oozes out oil.

Now add potato,salt and 1 cup of water and let it boil for 4 -5 minutes. (Add water according to your gravy consistency).

Garnish with coriander leaves.

It will be good combination with Roti or Poris

Instant Oats Dosa

I always look for a instant idli or Dosa because i hate fermenting process . Another reason is i want low carb food.

Rolled oats          1/2 cup

Urad Dal             1/4 cup

Salt to taste

Oats and urad dal in 2:1 ratio

Powder the Rolled oats and Urad dal in a blender.

In a bowl take a desire quantity mix water little by little make a batter.

Heat a Tawa , spread the butter in a round shape and sprinle some oil.

Flip it over cook on both sides.

Enjoy the instant dosa with chutney or sambar.

Methi Dal Curry

As we all know Methi leaves / Seeds having more medicinal values. Methi leaves are rich in rich so it good to take during pregnancy and persons having Anemia.

This curry requires less time to prepare since i'm using a pressure cooker.

Methi Leaves              1 cup

Moong Dal                 1/2 cup

Green chilli                 2 nos
Onion                        1 medium

Tomato                      1 small

Sambar Powder          1 tbsp

Turmeric Powder        1/2 tsp

Salt to taste

To Temper

Fennel seeds              1 tsp

Curry leaves               5 -6 Nos

Take all the ingredients in a pressure cooker and add some water. Cook for 3 hisses.

After the pressure completely gone ,heat oil in pan add Fennel seeds and curry leaves let them splutter.

Pour it to the curry . Serve hot with Roti or Rice.


You can add coconut paste in tempering and then add to curry.

Add water according to your curry consistency.

Gram Flour Omelette

Able to make a omelette without egg. Here is the solution for vegetarians. But it can't taste like egg but its simple and easy way of doing omelette.

You can prepare this within in 5  minutes and Gram Flour is good for Diabetic people.

Gram Flour       1 cup

Ginger Garlic paste     1 tbsp

Green chilli chopped   2 Nos

Hing                         pinch

Turmeric powder      1/2 tsp

Cumin seeds             1 tsp

Crushed Pepper       1 tsp

In a bowl mix all the ingredients by adding water little by little.

Heat a tawa spread the mix as a thin round and sprinkle some oil to cook.

On top of that you can add any veggies. I added tomato and chopped coriander leaves.

Cook on both the sides and enjoy the vegetarian omelette.

Prawn Masala Fry

Prawn              1 Lb

Onion              1 medium

Tomato            1 medium

Green Chilli      3 Nos

Turmeric Powder 1 tsp

Chilli powder       1+1/2 tbsp

Ginger, Garlic paste  1 tbsp

Lemon Juice             1 tbsp

Coriander leaves      2 tbsp

Salt to taste

To Temper

Cinnamon            2 nos

Clove                  2 nos

Cardamom          2 Nos

Fennel seeds        1 tbsp (Powdered Coarsely)

Clean the prawns and marinate with 1/2 tbsp chilli powder,turmeric powder and salt for 10 minutes.

Heat oil in pan add the item under temper.Once the spices splutter add ginger garlic paste and saute well.

Add onion, grreen chilli  and cook till onions are translucent. Add marinated prawns and cook till the prawns color changed to white.

Now add tomato,remaining chilli powder ,add cup of water and bring to boil. Cook till the prawns well done.

Garnish with coriander leaves and serve hot alone with rice or roti.


Coarsely grated fennel seeds enhance the flavor of the curry.

Sugar Free Whole Wheat Walnut Cookies

 Its a very simple cookie recipe. I liked the taste very much and ill bake again.I mentioned as sugar free because i replaced the sugar with sweetener.

I'm doing this for Thanks giving day long week end trip . My hubby in strict weight loss diet to maintain his calorie in take i substituted the sugar with zero calorie sweetener.

whole wheat flour          1 cup
Sugar                          1/2 cup
Walnut slices                1/4 cup
cardamom powder         1/2 tsp
Unsalted butter            4 Tbsp
Milk                            1/4 cup
salt                            1/4 tsp

Soften the butter by bring it room temperature 1/2 - 1 hour before making the dough.

In a bowl mix well the dry ingredients , next add butter , milk and make a soft dough.
Divide the dough into equal size balls. Flatten the balls using your palm gently.

Preheat the oven to 360 degree F.

Place the flatten balls in a baking tray. Leave a inch space between the cookies.Because while baking cookies size will get increase.

Bake it about 20 minutes or until it turns light golden brown.

Let it cool for 3 to 4 minutes before serving.

Egg Kuruma

Egg                               3 Nos
Onion                           1 No
Tomato                         1 No
Green Chilli                   2 (Slit length Wise)    
Chilli Powder                1 tbsp
Coriander Powder        2 tbsp
Turmeric Powder         1/2 tbsp
Ginger Garlic Paste      1 tbsp
Salt for taste
Coconut Paste               2- 3 tbsp
Coriander Leaves to Garnish

For Seasoning

Oil                    2 tbsp
Fennal seeds     1/2 tbsp
Cinnamon         2
Cardamom       2 Nos
Bay Leaf          1 No
Clove               2 Nos

Heat oil in a pan. Once the  oil is hot enough add all the ingredients in for seasoning one by one. After add Ginger Garlic paste and sauté well.

Now add onion , Green chilli and sauté well until onions are translucent. Add tomato and fry until it get cooked.

Now add Turmeric powder,Chilli Powder and coriander powder mix well.

Cook the spices until raw smell goes. After add 2 cups of water and let it boil for few minutes.

Break egg directly in to the curry one by one. (Break the eggs in different place.So that it should not overlap with each other). Don't mix the gravy otherwise the eggs  will get scrambled. The recipes feature is the egg will look as like a boiled egg.

Once the eggs get cooked, add the coconut paste and let it cook for some more minutes. Once done garnish with coriander leaves.

Note :

Add the water according to your gravy consistency.

You can add almond and cashew paste instead of coconut paste. It will give the same taste.

Bread Upma

Bread upma is healthier break fast or dinner. It can be made with any kind bread. Even multi grain bread also can be used. For this recipe i used Whole wheat bread

Bread             4 slices

Onion            1 medium size

Tomato         1 small

Ginger           1 tsp

Green chilli    2 Nos

Chilli powder  1/4 tbsp

Turmeric powder 1/2 tsp

Channa Dal     1/2 tbsp

Urad Dal         1/2 tbsp

Mustard seeds 1/2 tsp

Curry Leaves  few

Coriander leaves for garnish

Salt to taste

Cut down the brown part of the bread and slice the bread into small pieces.

Heat oil in pan add mustard seeds,curry leaves. Once splutters add urad dal,channa dal and ginger. Cook for few minutes. Add Green chilli and onion cook till onion translucent.

Add tomato ,turmeric powder , chilli powder and salt cook for few minutes.

Add 1/2 cup of water and bread slices mix well. Once the water is absorbed garnish with coriander leaves and serve hot.

Rava / Semolina Cake

I book marked this recipe in Prem's blog long time ago. Yesterday only i got the right time to do this.

First time doing the cake so kept my fingers crossed while doing this. I can say the output is almost same as the original recipe and the taste is really good. Its very simple cake recipe for first time Bakers.

Rava / Semolina          1 cup

Coconut grated           1 cup

Sugar                         1 1/2 Cup

Maida/Plain Flour       1/2 cup

Egg                            4 Nos

Butter                        6 tbsp

Cardamom powder   1 tbsp

Baking powder          1 tsp

Dry roast the rava and freshly grated coconut . Keep it aside

In mixing bowl take butter and sugar and beat them till it become creamy.

Add eggs and beat them well.

Add baking powder,maida, rava,coconut and caramom powder mix well . Keep the batter  in same bowl and let it for 3-4 hours.

After 3 -4 hours grease the baking pan with oil and transfer the mix into it. Preheat the oven to 350 F and bake for about 10 - 20 minutes (Insert the toot pick and check if it comes out clean the cake is done).

Once done cool and then slice it.

Chettinad Chicken Curry

Chicken                   1 Lb

Sambar Onion         1 cup

Tomatoes                1 cup

Turmeric powder     1/4 tsp

Curry Leaves          5-6 Nos

Coconut milk          1 cup

Salt to taste

Make a Paste

Green chilli              2 nos

Garlic                     8 flakes

Ginger                    2 tbsp

Poppy seeds          1 tsp

Make a Powder

Pepper corns         1/2 tbsp

Cumin seeds          1/2 tbsp

Fennel seeds          1/2 tbsp

Red chilli                6 -8 Nos

Coriander seeds     1 1/2 tbsp

Curry leaves          6-7

Cardamom            2

Cinnamon              2 -3

Clean the chicken and keep it aside

Dry roast and make a powder all the ingredients under Make a powder.

Make a paste of ingredients under Make a paste.

Heat oil in a pressure cooker , add onions,curry leaves and cook till onions are translucent.

now add the ground paste and cook for 2 minutes.Add chicken , pinch of salt and cook till chicken turns into white color.

Add tomatoes, turmeric powder, small amount of masala powder,salt and cook for some more time.

Add the coconut milk , close the lid and cook for 1 whistle.

Finally add the all ground masala powder and cook 4 -5 minutes.

Garnish with coriander leaves and serve hot with Chapathi,rice,idly and dosas.

Gobi Paratha

For making Dough

Wheat Flour         1 cup

Oil                        1 tsp


In a bowl add wheat flour,pinch of salt and oil. Then add water little by little and make a soft dough as we do for Chappathi.

Keep it aside for 15 Mins

For making Gobi Stuffing

Gobi                      1 cup

Onion                   1 medium

Green chilli             2 Nos

Chilli Powder        1/2 tsp

Coriander Powder  1 tsp

Cumin powder       1/2 tsp

Garam Masala       1/2 tsp

Turmeric Powder   1/4 tsp


Cook the cauliflower in water and blend it.

Heat oil in pan add onion, chopped Green chilli and cook for 2 minutes. Now add blended cauliflower and all spices cook till the moisture evaporates. The stuffing should be dry then only we can able to roll the dough.

Divide the dough into equal size ball. Take one and roll into small round shape. The center should be thick than the outer.

Keep 1 tsp of stuffing and seal the dough. Roll it gently into a round shape with sealed part on top.

Heat the tawa and cook the Paratha both the sides.

Serve hot with raita.

Fish Puttu

In South India this dish called "Sura Puttu"  made only with shark fish . In US we can't get shark so replaced with Tilapia. I got this recipe from here and changed slightly.

Tilapia Fillet       1 No

Onion                2 medium size

Green chilli        2 Nos

Garlic crushed   3 -4 Clove

Red chilli Powder  1 tbsp

Turmeric powder   1 tsp

Coriander Powder 2 tbsp

Mustard seeds       1 tsp

Curry Leaves        4 - 5 Nos

Coriander leaves for garnishing

Clean and cut fish into small pieces (Don't scramble it now). Add red chilli powder,coriander powder,turmeric powder and small amount salt to fish pieces mix well and keep it aside for an hour.

After an hour cook the fish by any of the below  3 ways

  • In a pan add 1/2 cup of water and bring to boil. Now add fish ,turmeric and some more salt. Let it cook for 5 -6 minutes. When the flesh turns white completely drain and discard the water.
  • Heat oil in pan add fish pieces and fry until it get cooked.
  • Or in a Idly cooked steam the fish pieces for about 5 - 6 minutes.
Scramble the cooked fish and keep aside.

Heat oil in pan add mustard seeds ,curry leaves,Green chillis and onion. Cook the onion until translucent.

Now add the scrambled fish,salt and cook for 5 minutes in a medium flame. 

Garnish with coriander leaves and serve hot with rice.

Murunga Keerai / DrumStick leaves Poriyal

Almost all parts of the drumstick tree have medicinal value. The small,round leaves are especially beneficial in treating many ailments because of their rich iron contents.

Drumstick-leaf juice is also very beneficial for expecting mothers as it can help them to overcome sluggishness of the uterus, ease delivery and reduce post - delivery complications .

Drumstick leaves are can be used as wonderful tonic for infant and growing kids to promote strong and healthy bones.

Drumstick leaves       1 cup

Onion                        1 (medium size)

Crushed Garlic          1 tsp

Channa Dal               1 tbsp

Red chilli                  3 -4 Nos

Mustard seeds         1 tsp

Turmeric powder     1 tsp

Salt to taste

Remove the drumstick leaves from stem , clean and keep aside

Heat oil in pan add mustard seeds , broken red chilli , Channa dal and crushed garlic fry for 2 minutes.

Now add onion and cook until it translucent. Add drum stick leaves ,salt,turmeric powder and cook for 2 -3 minutes.

Note :

The leaves will get cooked soon so don't over cook . If so it will become bitter taste.

Egg Fried Rice (My style)

I my school days i never ate Egg. So to make me eat my grand mother will do this egg fried rice. She used to add onions and turmeric powder to get rid of the egg smell. On those days i used to take egg only in this form. Still i'm following the same recipe . My hubby doesn't like this version .So when ever i'm cooking for myself only ill do this

Basmati rice       1 cup

Egg                   2 -3 Nos

Onion                1 small

Green chilli         2 Nos

Pepper powder  1 tbsp

Coriander Leaves  2 tbsp

Heat oil in pan add onion and green chillis. Cook till onion become translucent.

Break the eggs and cook in a medium flame. Now add cooked rice,pepper powder and mix it well.

Garnish with coriander leaves and serve hot.

Note :

Serve hot otherwise it wont taste good.

Radish / Mullangi Soup

Radish is good source for weight watchers . Radish fills your stomach and satisfies your hunger without giving many calories .Its a very good diet option for who trying to lose weight.

Due to the pungent smell of radish most of us don't like it. But it has many medicinal value.

Radish  grated 1 cup

Onion             1 small

Tomato          1 small

Turmeric powder 1 tsp

Pepper powder    1 tbsp

Garlic                  2 - 3 Nos (Optional)

salt to taste

Heat oil in pan add grated radish,salt and turmeric powder .( Adding turmeric powder will reduce pungent smell). Cook till the water in the radish become dry.

Now add onion, tomato and fry for 2 -3 Minutes . Add 1 cup of water and cook it till water boils.

Transfer it to serving bowl sprinkle the pepper powder and serve hot.

Easy Fish Fry

Tilapia Fish             1 fillet

Fish Fry Masala      1 tbsp

Chilli powder          1 tbsp

Lemon Juice           1 tsp

Salt to taste

Clean the fish and add fish fry masala , chilli powder ,salt and lemon juice mix well. Marinate it for 2-3 Hours.

After marination you can either deep fry it or shallow fry it in a tawa.

Cauliflower peas Kurma

Cauliflower florets     1 cup

Peas (Frozen)           1/2 cup

Onion                      1 No

Tomato                   1 No

Coconut paste          2 tbsp

Ginger Garlic paste  2 tbsp

Chilli Powder        1 tbsp

Coriander powder  2 tbsp

Turmeric Powder  1 tsp

Coriander leaves  1 tbsp

Salt to taste

To temper

Fennel seeds            1 tsp

Cloves                    2

Bay leaves             2 No

Cardamom             2 No

cinnamon               2 -3 Nos

Heat oil in pan add all the item under temper and let them splutter. Then add the ginger garlic paste and cook for 2 minutes.

Add onion cook until translucent and add tomato and cook for some more minutes. Now add cauliflower florets , peas , turmeric powder , Chilli powder , coriander powder and 2 cups of water. (If your using fresh peas and cook it separately and then add to gravy)

After the raw smell of spices went add coconut paste and cook for some more minutes.

Garnish with coriander leaves and serve hot with chappathi or rice.

Medhu Vadai / Ulundu Vadai

Urad Dal            1 cup

Rice flour           2 tbsp

Onion                 1 No

Green chilli         2 - 3 No

Ginger              1 tbsp

Curry leaves  

Coriander leaves

Salt to Taste

Oil for frying

Soak urad dal for about 2 -3 hours.

Grind it as smooth paste by adding little water. Mix rice flour with small amount of water to make a paste.( It will give the crispness to vadai outer)

Along with urad dal mix rice paste , green chilli ,onion ,Ginger,curry leaves , salt and curry leaves.After adding onion we should fry it immediately. Otherwise batter will become watery.

In a bowl of water wet your fingers in it , take a small lemon sized batter and flatten it on a plastic sheet or in your palm. Now transfer the flattened vadai in to oil gently.

Fry on both sides till it turns golden brown.

Thattai is a main item in our house hold for Diwali celebration.In our home while doing Diwali sweets and snacks me and my 2 sister were sit down and do the helping for our  mother. While doing if we chat our mom will scold because if we chat the dishes will consume more oil.I don't know whether it is true or false. After we 3 got married we don't have much time to chat. I'm missing those wonderful days.

Tried this alone for the first time and came out very well.

Rice Flour                 2 cup

UradDal Flour           2 tbsp

Pottu Kadalai Flour    2 tbsp

Red chilli Powder       1 tsp

Butter                        2 tbsp

Channa Dal               2 tbsp

Sesame seeds           1 tbsp

Salt for taste

Oil for deep frying

Soak channa dal for 1 hour . In a bowl mix all the ingredients by adding water little by little. Make a soft dough and keep covered.

Divide the dough equal size balls. Grease the zip lock cover or in cloth flatten the balls with the finger and put it in a oil.

Cook on both sides .Once done take out from oil and cool down.

Store in a air tight container.

Aloo palak

Serving size 2

Spinach      1 bunch

Onion         1 small

Tomato       1 small

Potato        1 small (Boiled)

Ginger chopped 1 tsp

Chilli powder  1 tbsp

Coriander powder 1 tbsp

Garam Masala     1 tsp

Green chilli          2 Nos

Salt to taste

Wash and clean the leaves. In a pan add leaves and green chillis and cook until leaves reduce the volume and keep aside. Don't add water spinach itself will leave water. Grind it to smooth paste once it cool down.

Heat oil in pan, add onion and ginger. Fry till translucent and add tomato,Chilli powder,coriander powder,Garam masala and salt. Cook util the spices are cooked.

Add the spinach paste and cook for 2 minutes and 1/4 cup of water. Now add boiled and cubed potato.
Cook it for 3 more minutes.

Serve with rice or Roti.

Wheat Rava Upma

Serving size 1

Wheat Rava     1/2 cup

Onion              1 small

Green chilli       2 Nos

Ginger chopped 1 tsp

Channa Dal      1 tsp

Mustard seeds  1 tsp

Water               1 cup

Salt to taste

Dry roast the wheat rava for about 3 -4 mins and keep separately.

Heat oil in a pan add mustard seeds and channa dal . Once channa dal changed to golden brown add onion , green chilli,Ginger and fry for few minutes.Add cup of water and salt

Once water starts boiling start add wheat rava slowly and stir continuously.Otherwise  lumps will form.

Cover it and cook it until done.

Serve hot along with chutney or sambar.

Wheat (Kothumai) Spinach Adai

My grand mother used to makes this adai with drum stick leaves when she out of Ragi flour. I replaced the drum stick leaves with spinach. Both leaves are rich in Iron.

Serving size 1

Whole wheat Flour   1/2 cup

Onion    chopped      1 small

Green chilli chopped 1 Nos

Gee                          1 tsp (optional)

Spinach chopped handful

Salt to taste

In a bowl add every thing and make soft dough using small amount of water. Dive into 2 equal size balls (i made it as once since i like thick adai).

Grease the zip lock cover with oil and flatten the ball.

Heat the tawa and transfer the flattened adai. Apply oil and cook both sides.

For this adai no side dish required , if you wish you can have with Raita or chutney.

Chow Chow Chutney

Chow Chow chopped   1 cup

Toor Dal                       1 tbsp

Channa Dal                   1 tbsp

Red chilli                       4 Nos

Mustard seeds              1 tsp

Tamarind   small size

Salt to taste

Dry roast Toor Dal , Channa Dal and red chilli separately and kept it aside.

Dry roast the chow chow until it becomes soft and let it cool.

Once it get cool , take the roasted ingredients and tamarind in a blender and blend it well.

Heat oil in a pan, add mustard seeds. Once it splutter and the blended mixture into it and fry for some time.

You can omit the above step and use it as such.

Its a good combination with the white rice and ghee and side dish for idli or dosa.

Beetroot Poriyal

Beetroot has lot of health benefits. Below are the some.

  • Reduce blood pressure
  • Reduce risk of heart attacks
  • Reduce attack of stoke
  • Antioxidant
  • Folic acid

So it good to add beetroot in our daily menu.

Serving size 1

Beetroot       1 Nos

Channa Dal   1 tsp

Mustard seeds  1 tsp

Turmeric powder 1/2 tsp

Grated coconut    1 tsp

salt to taste

Heat oil in a pan ,add mustard seeds. Once it splutters add channa dal and fry for few minutes.

Add cubed beetroots ,turmeric powder,salt and 1 cup of water.

Cover and cook it until the beetroots are become soft. Add grated coconut and serve with any rice dish.

It will be the good combination for vatha kulambu and some other spicy curries.

Lemon Oats

I started eating Oats once i diagnosed as having Gestational Diabetes. Before that i believed that oats is only for diabetic patient. After that i came to know it has alot health benefits. Check here for more info.
So started adding oats in my regular menu.

Oats   1/2 cup

lemon  1/2

channal Dal   1 tsp

Mustard seeds  1 tsp

Green chilli       2 Nos

Ginger final chopped  1/2 tsp

Turmeric Powder   1/2 tsp

water 1 cup

salt to taste.

Heat oil in a pan, add mustard seeds and channa dal. Once it  splutters add ginger ,green chilli and lemon juice,turmeric powder and water.

Once the water boiled add oats and cook until the water evaporates.(Adjust water consistency according to your taste.)

Radish / Mullangi poriyal

Radish cubed              1 cup

Green chilli                  2 nos

Mustard seeds            1 tsp

Turmeric powder        1 tsp

salt to taste

Heat oil in pan , add mustard seeds. Once it splutters add green chilli, radish,turmeric powder,salt and 1 cup of water.

Cover it cook it until water becomes dry.


BlackEyed Beans curry

I got this recipe from manjula's kitchen. It simple and easy dish to prepare. It tasted really yummy.

BlackEyed Beans            1 cup

Tomato                           1 No

Cumin Seeds                  1 tsp

Chilli Powder                 1 tbsp

Coriander Powder          1 tbsp

Garam Masala               1/2 tbsp

Ginger shredded            1 tsp

salt to taste

Soak Black eyed beans for an hour.

In a bowl mix ginger,chilli powder,Coriander powder,garam masala and ginger with small amount of water.

Heat oil in a pressure cooker,add cumin seeds and then the masala paste.

Add Black eyed beans ,tomato, salt and 3 cups of water and close the pressure cooker. Let it cook for 1 hisses and switch off the flame.

Once the pressure went gravy is ready to serve.

Enjoy it with Roti or rice.

Oats Almond Milkshake

oats        2 tbsp

Almond  3 -4 Nos (Skin Removed)

Dates      2

Sugar      2 tsp

Milk       3/4 cup

Soak almond and dates in small amount of milk.

Cook oats and let it cool.

In blender add soaked almond and dates ,blend to smooth paste . Now add cooked oats ,rest of the milk blend for few minutes.

Pour into glass and serve chill.

Andhra Pesarattu /GreenGram Adai

Whole Green Gram  1cup
Rice – 2 tbsp
Red chilli – 4 to 5
Ginger – 1/2 inch piece
Onion, big - 1
Fennel seeds – 1/2 tsp
Salt – to taste
Oil – to cook

Soak Green gram and rice in a bowl about 6-7 hours.

Blend green gram,rice,red chilli,Fennel seeds and salt

In a pan heat oil,add Fennel seeds and onion fry some minutes.Pour the seasoning to the batter and mix well.

In a tawa spread the batter and add oil to cook.

Serve this Pesarattu along with coconut chutney.

Beans Poriyal

Beans cubed         1 cup

Red chilli              3 -4 Nos

Onion                  1 small.

Mustard seeds     1 tsp

Salt to taste

Heat oil in a pan. Add mustard seeds,red chilli and onion. Cook till onions are translucent.

Now add beans ,salt and 1/2 cup of water (adjust water content). Close the pan and cook until the water evaporates.

Once the mixture becomes dry add grated coconut (I'm not added) and serve along with rice or Roti.


I tried this for first time and it came out very well . Got appreciation from my hubby.

Paneer cubed          1 cup

Oninon                    2 Nos (Small)

Tomato                  2 Nos

Capcicum               1 No cubed

Turmeric Powder     1 tsp

Chilli Powder            1 tbsp

Coriander Powder     2 tbsp

Garam Masala           1 tsp

Ginger chopped         1 tsp

Green chilli                 2 Nos

coriander leaves to garnish

salt to taste

Heat oil in a pan. Add ginger,onion and green chilli fry 2 -3 mins. After that add tomato,turmeric powder,chilli powder,coriander powder and garam masala fry until the spices get cooked or it oozes out the oil.

now add capcium,Paneer and 1/2 cup of water. Cook until the gravy becomes dry.

Add coriander leaves at last.

Carrot Halwa

I got this recipe from my friend.Its a easy method to make carrot Halwa.

Carrot grated   1 cup

Milk                2 cup

Gee                 3 tbsp

Sugar              1 cup

Cashew          1 tbsp

Pressure cook the carrots and milk (carrot should immerse in milk) in cooker for 4 - 5 whistles.

After pressure released transfer into the heavy bottom pan and cook till the milk evaporates.

When the mixture is dry add sugar and remaining gee, fry till it comes out from the sides.

Add cashew fried in gee to the mixture.

Ragi Murukku

Ragi Murukku is the healthy version of sacks for diabetic persons. Tried for first time and tastes as like rice flour murukku. Try n enjoy the healthy snack.

Ragi   1 Cup

Gram Flour 1/2 Cup

Red Chilli Powder  1/2 tsp

Fennal Seeds  1/2 tsp

Butter 1tsp


Add all the ingredients in bowl and kneed with water as soft dough.

Heat oil in deep frying pan. Take a ball of dough and put in a murukku press.

Squeeze out the dough in greased plate and drop gently into the oil. Fry until it get cooked.

Bitter Gourd Thookku

This is my MIL recipe. Before  marriage i never eaten the bitter gourd.One day my MIL made this and asked me to try.I tried that day with hesitation only. But really it did have bitter taste.

She used insist that it has more medicinal value and it good for Diabetic persons. After that i started eating Bitter gourd .

Bitter Gourd                        4 nos
Onion                                  4 Nos
Tomato                                1 Nos
Chilli Powder                        3-4 tbsp
Coriander Powder                6-7 tbsp
Mustard Seeds                     1 tbsp
Gee                                      50g

Heat oil/gee in a pan and add mustard seeds. Once the mustard seeds splutter add onion and bitter gourd.

Add salt and Turmeric powder. Let it cook the onion and bitter gourd until it reduced to half of the added amount.

Now add the tomato, chilli powder,coriander powder and 3 cups of water. Let it cook until the gravy becomes dry. Stir often.

This will be good side dish for Chappathi or rice.


Have to cook the gravy to about 1 -2 hours. Then only the bitterness will go.

Add equal amount of onion and bitter gourd.

If you still find its bitter add small amount jaggary while adding water to the gravy.

Instant Oats cracked wheat Idly

Broken Wheat                                  1/4cup
Rolled oats                                      1/4cup
Sour yogurt                                      1/2cup
Mustard seeds +Channa Dal            1/2tbsp
Green chilly (chopped)                   1no
Eno Salt or Baking soda                  1/2tbsp
Few curry leaves

Dry roast the broken wheat and oats and grind as a fine powder.
Heat oil in a pan, add mustard seeds. Once it splutters and channa dal and chopped green chilis. Fry them for few minutes.
Then add this into the broken wheat and oats powder. Now add sour yogurt, Baking soda and salt. Mix it well and make it as a batter consistency. If required add small amount of water .
Grease the idly plate and pour the batter and steam it for 15-20 minutes.
