Chettinad Chicken Curry





Chicken                   1 Lb

Sambar Onion         1 cup

Tomatoes                1 cup

Turmeric powder     1/4 tsp

Curry Leaves          5-6 Nos

Coconut milk          1 cup

Salt to taste


Make a Paste

Green chilli              2 nos

Garlic                     8 flakes

Ginger                    2 tbsp

Poppy seeds          1 tsp


Make a Powder

Pepper corns         1/2 tbsp

Cumin seeds          1/2 tbsp

Fennel seeds          1/2 tbsp

Red chilli                6 -8 Nos

Coriander seeds     1 1/2 tbsp

Curry leaves          6-7

Cardamom            2

Cinnamon              2 -3


Clean the chicken and keep it aside

Dry roast and make a powder all the ingredients under Make a powder.

Make a paste of ingredients under Make a paste.

Heat oil in a pressure cooker , add onions,curry leaves and cook till onions are translucent.

now add the ground paste and cook for 2 minutes.Add chicken , pinch of salt and cook till chicken turns into white color.

Add tomatoes, turmeric powder, small amount of masala powder,salt and cook for some more time.

Add the coconut milk , close the lid and cook for 1 whistle.

Finally add the all ground masala powder and cook 4 -5 minutes.

Garnish with coriander leaves and serve hot with Chapathi,rice,idly and dosas.
