Murungakkai / Drumstick Kootu



I'm bored of doing regular kulambu , poriyal  and curry with drumstick. My hubby gave idea to make a kootu with drumstick. The taste is really good.






Durmstick          2 cup (Cut length wise)

Moong Dal        1/4 cup

Channa Dal        1/4 cup

Turmeric powder 1 tsp

salt to taste


To paste

Green chilli          2 Nos

Red chilli             2 Nos

Cumin seeds       1/2 tbsp

Coconut shredded  1 tbsp (Optional)


To Temper

Mustard seeds     1 tsp

Curry leaves        5 -6 Nos

Urad dal              1 tsp


Pressure cook Moong dal and Channa dal for 3 hisses.

Mean while in pan cook drumstick with turmeric powder and salt.

In a blender add items under to paste and blend it as smooth paste.

Add this paste to the cooking drumstick and cook until the raw smell goes.

Finally add the cooked dal and cook for some time.

In separate pan, heat oil and do temper with items given under To temper. Pour the tempering to the cooking mixture.

Serve hot with rice or Roti.
