Papaya Kesari

Kesari is a basic sweet dish prepared in every south Indian home during festival. The same sweet in North India it referred as Soji Halwa.It is simple and easy recipe made in less time.Whenever sudden guest came i used to prepare this sweet. Adding papaya puree to this sweet makes healthy twist. Second time making this papaya kesari and really tastes good.


Rava                   1/2 cup

Water                  1 cup

Sugar                  1 cup

Papaya Puree     1 cup

Cardamom        2 -3 Nos

Ghee                3 -4 tsp

Cashew           few

Raisins           few

Kesar color   a pinch (Optional)


Powder the sugar and cardamom.

Heat 2 tsp of ghee in a pan, fry cashews and raisins and keep aside. In a same pan roast the rava for 5 -8 minutes or until nice aroma comes.

In a heavy bottom pan add water and let it boil. Once boiled add rava slowly and stir continuously with out any lumps.

Once rava cooked add papaya puree and sugar and mix continuously. Add some more ghee.

Once the kesari leaves from side add cashews and raisins and mix well. Switch off the stove and serve.

Whole Wheat Apple Muffins

I had a couple of apples to use up and so this recipe came in handy to use them up. The muffins were tender and had just the right amount of sweetness and healthy breakfast muffin too.Apples in every bite! .The brown sugar topping is a must(actually i forgot sprinkle some brown sugar on top of it ).

Apple                          2 Nos

Whole Wheat Flour   1 cup

All Purpose flour        1 cup

Cinnamon                   1 tbsp

Baking powder           1 tsp

Baking soda               1 tsp

Butter                        1/2 cup

White Sugar             1/2 cup

Brown Sugar           1/2 cup

Egg                         1 No

Yogurt                    1 cup

Salt                         1/4 tsp


Wash ,peel and chop the apple.Preheat the oven to 400F.Grease or line the muffin tray.

In mixing bowl , mix wheat flour,All Purpose Flour , cinnamon , baking soda,baking powder and salt.

In a separate bowl cream the butter and then add granulated white sugar and brown sugar.

Beat them until fluffy . Add egg and mix well.

Add yogurt and mix well.Add the dry ingredients gradually and mix well.Fold in the chopped apple.

Pour the batter equally into the prepared muffin tray.Sprinkle some brown sugar on top of it. Bake it for 10 - 15 minutes or until toot pick inserted comes out clean.

Cool it for 5 minutes and then serve.

Soya Bean Vadai | Soya Bean Fritters

I'm a big fan of masal vadai. For this tamil new year i want to make masal vadai but with different legume.When i searched in my pantry these soya beans are sitting for long time. So soaked it for making vadai. I usually make Sundal and Curry recipe with these protein rich legume. It is a good way to make last cup of soya bean into a vadai.These quite addictive one.



Soya Bean                       1 cup

Onion                              1 No

Green Chilli                    3 Nos

Fennel seeds                   2 tsp

Coriander Leaves          2 tbsp

Curry Leaves               2 Strands

Ginger  chopped          1 inch


Wash and soak the soya bean for over night.

Remove the water and blend it in a blender with fennel seeds and some salt as a coarse paste.

Mix the chopped the onion ,green chilli,coriander leaves ,ginger and curry leaves with the paste.Add required amount of salt and mix well.

Heat oil in a pan ,once hot make small lemon size ball from the paste and drop it in oil.

Cook on both the sides. Remove excess oil using paper towel.

Serve hot with chutney or sambar.

Chocolate babka Muffins

I recently joined in Baking Partners group .This is a small group of home baker friends joined to learn the techniques of baking and to try out new baking recipes. Every month 16th will share a new recipe; every blogger should blog about that on 15thof every month. This is my first month posting recipe for Baking Partners group. Suggested 2 recipes for this month one is carrot cake and another one is this chocolate babka muffin.I selected this delicious babka since it has chocolate in it Even though I got the recipe on earlier, I prepared today only.These babkas very soft and delicious.I really enjoyed this challenge.

For Dough
Whole Milk                       1/2 cup
Sugar                                 1/4 cup
Instant yeast                      2 tsp
Egg                                   1 no
All purpose Flour            2 Cups
Salt                                 1/2 tsp
Butter                            3 tbsp

Chocolate chips             ¾ cup
Brown Sugar                 ¼ cup
Cinnamon                     1 tsp
Butter                           3 tbsp @room temperature

For The Dough:

 In a large bowl, mix together milk, sugar and yeast. Add egg and beat well.
Now add salt and flour and form slightly sticky dough. Add butter and knead well into a elastic dough.
Butter a large bowl, keep the dough inside and cover with wet kitchen towel. Set it aside until it doubles in volume for 1-2 hour.

For The Filling:

In a blender, chop the chocolate pieces into a coarse mixer. (I used chocolate chips) .Add brown sugar, cinnamon and a pinch of salt. Pulse until crumbly and set aside


·         When the dough is double in volume, keep in clean work area and pouch down to remove air.
·         Roll it into a rectangle. (Sprinkle flour if it sticky)
·         Apply butter on the rolled out dough and spread the filling evenly.
·         Roll the dough into tight log.
·         Cut the dough into 12 equal parts.
·         Place each piece into a prepared muffin tray.
·         Cover it with kitchen towel and set aside for 30 minutes.
·         Preheat oven for 350 degree.
·         After 30 minutes, Bake it for 10 -15 minutes or until edge become golden brown.
Cool it on wire rack .Delicious babkas ready to serve.

Carrot payasam | Carrot kheer

 To welcome the new Tamil year "Jaya" i made Carrot Payasam. It is Simple and easy to make dessert. This dessert suitable for all festival and party celebration. I'm making this carrot kheer to make my little one eat veggie. He now itself become a picky eater. He will eat anything which is sweet. It is good way to make the kids eat veggie


Carrot chopped                  3 nos

Milk                                    2 cups

Sugar                                 1/2 cup

Cashew                              5 - 6 nos

Raisin                                5 - 6 nos

Cardamom                      2 nos

Ghee                             1 tbsp           

Saffron                         few Strands


Roughly chop and steam the carrot . Once cooled make a puree in a blender. Powdered the sugar along with the Cardomom and keep aside.

Heat ghee in a pan, fry the cashews and Raisin and keep aside. In a same pan add carrot puree and cook til raw smell goes.

Boil the milk , add the pureed carrots ,sugar,cardamom and cook till it thickens. 

Add fried cashews and raisins and mix well.

Transfer to serving bowl  garnish it with saffron serve chill or Hot

Eggless Chickpea Flour Chocolate cookies | Besan Chocolate cookies

Chickpea flour cookies I'm tried for the second time . For the first time i over baked the cookies.So it becomes hard. I adapted the recipe form Litebite , and modified little bit according to my taste bud. These cookies are really addictive one.Adding chocolate the chickpea flour really gives nice taste.

Chickpea Flour /Besan Flour                 1 cup

Cocoa Powder                                        3tbsp

Powder sugar                                         1/2 cup

Butter                                                    1/2 cup (Softened)

Vanilla Essence                                     1 tsp

Pista                                                       for garnishing


Soften the butter by bring it room temperature 1/2 - 1 hour before making the dough.

In a bowl mix all the dry ingredients , next add butter,Vanilla essence and make a soft dough.
Divide the dough into equal size balls. Flatten the balls using your palm gently.

Preheat the oven to 350 degree F. Place the flatten balls in a baking tray. Bake it about 10 - 15 minutes.
Let it cool for 3 to 4 minutes. Garnish it with Pista and serve.

Celery Kootu | Celery Dal Curry

Celery has lot of nutritious benefits. We can have as a raw along with ranch or peanut butter. Celery is rich in fiber ,helps to prevent constipation .

Celery chopped                  4 strands

Channa Dal                        1/2 cup

Onion                                 1 No

Tomato                               1 No

Green chilli                        3 -4 Nos

Sambar Powder                1 tbsp

Fennel seeds                     1 tsp

Curry Leaves                   2 Strands

Salt to taste


Wash and soak channa dal in water for 30 minutes. 

Heat oil in a pressure cooker / pan, add fennel seeds and curry leaves. Once splutter add onions , cook till they translucent.

Add green chilli , tomato and some salt. Cook till tomato become mushy.

Now add florets ,channa dal ,Sambar powder and required amount of salt and mix well. Close the lid and pressure cook it for 2-3 hisses.

Once pressure went , garnish with coriander leaves and serve with Rice.

Dal Tadka

Dal Tadka is simple and easy recipe. Its me and my husband favorite recipe. I used to prepare this when I'm lazy to cook or having no vegetables in my fridge.Such a nice aroma will come while preparing this tadka. Ill eat one more chapathi for that aroma itself


Toor Dal                        1/4 cup

Moong Dal                    1/4 cup

Onion                            1 No

Tomato                         1 No

Green chilli                  2 split

Turmeric Powder        1/4 tsp

Salt to taste

To Temper

Cumin Seeds              1 tsp

Garlic                         3 -4 Pods

Ginger                       1 inch chopped

Red chilli                   2 Nos


In a pressure cooker , take Toor Dal, Moong Dal,onion,tomato, green chilli , turmeric powder and salt.

Add 2 cups of water and cook for  4-5 hisses. Once pressure went , open and mash the Dal using spoon and keep aside.

Heat oil in a pan, add items under 'To Temper' once splutter add it to Dal mixture.

Serve it along with Plain Rice ,Chapathi or Pulka.

Lima Beans Curry

This Lima Beans curry is easy  and tasty recipe.when i have a Gestational Diabetics i always search for low Carbohydrate  foods. And i used have some limited types of curry during that time.Lima beans was one of those food. I never tasted or know about Lima beans before.Lima beans has a very good source of cholesterol lowering fiber and helps to prevent blood sugar level rapidly rises after eating.


Lima Beans                  1 1/2 cups

Onion                          1 Medium

Tomato                       2 Nos

Ginger garlic Paste    2 tsp

Chilli Powder            1 1/2 tsp

Coriander Powder    1  tsp

Turmeric Powder     1/4 tsp

Cumin Seeds           1 tsp

Curry Leaves           1 strands

Salt to taste


Heat oil in a pressure pan or cooker , add cumin seeds and curry leaves.Once splutter add ginger garlic paste.Cook til raw smell goes.

Add onion and cook til translucent. Add tomato ,some salt and turmeric powder and cook til tomato become mushy.

Now add lima beans ,give a qucik stir and cook for 2 minutes.

Now add chilli powder , coriander powder,required amount of salt and a cup of water.

Close the lid of the pressure cooker and cook for one hiss.

Once pressure gone garnish with coriander leaves and serve with Chappathi or Naan.
